Reba Announces Arena Tour Set for this Autumn

Earlier today, multimedia superstar Reba announced her upcoming fall tour. She will give fans a preview of her impending 31-city trek throughout the US and Canada during the CMA Music Festival on Friday, June 10, at LP Field in Nashville. Reba will play her current single "When Love Gets A Hold Of You" as well as several previous smashes like "Fancy" and "Turn On The Radio." Fellow Big Machine Label Group artists – Republic Nashville's multi-platinum sibling trio The Band Perry and Big Machine Records’ emerging stars Steel Magnolia and Edens Edge – will open select US dates beginning in October.

"I am very excited about the fall tour. We are designing new production and staging. I'm looking forward to touring with The Band Perry, Steel Magnolia and Eden's Edge. It will be a night of great music and I'm planning on having a blast," said Reba.

Okies and TV partners Reba McEntire and Blake Shelton paired up Wednesday and Thursday to play fundraiser shows for tornado victims in Oklahoma.

Blake tweeted that those shows raised more than $500,000.

Newspaper accounts revealed that Blake might’ve felt a little inferior to Reba on stage.

"This is beginning to feel a little bit like a song war," Blake told Reba at one point. "Imagine how screwed I am. Don't be over there smiling like that. I've got four songs. You've got 80."

CMT's 20 Greatest Women, 20 Years Ranked Her First

A gifted entertainer and a keen businesswoman, Reba McEntire remains one of Nashville's most recognizable personalities and a role model to countless women in country music. Her most recent acclaim comes from the new CMT special, What's Your 20? 20 Greatest Women, 20 Years, which wrapped up with McEntire entrenched at the top of the fan-voted list. In this exclusive interview with the show's producers, the upbeat Oklahoma native talks about her earliest performances, the influence of her parents and the secret to choosing her material.

CMT: How did your mom and dad guide you toward a music career?
McEntire: Mom and Daddy were very influential over all four of us kids -- encouraging us, keeping us busy. That's the way we stayed out of trouble. We were always working on the ranch, rodeoing, having a fun time. When they released us from our chores, we hit the roping pen. We played down there until it was too dark to see or mama hollered for us to come home for dinner. They were always encouraging us to follow our dreams, but don't stay too long. And my dream at the time, when I was younger, was to be a world-champion barrel racer.

Daddy would just point-blank tell me, "Reba, I don't know why you want to do something you're not good at." And I said, "Well, that was hurtful." But it was true. It was very honest. And I would say, "Well, what do you think I ought to be doing?" And he said, "Sing. You ought to be singing." But, see, my problem was, I couldn't practice singing, but I could go practice running barrels. That was fun. And keeping a horse in shape -- that was fun.

So Mom and Daddy were always encouraging us to do better and to give your 100 percent of everything that you had. Try hard. And they were great role models. Daddy was world-champion steer roper three years. Grandpap was a world-champion steer roper. So we had champions in our family, and I consider my mama a champion for just putting up with all four of us kids. She had four kids in five years. Good lands, that was enough to make anybody pull their hair out. But they encouraged us to do what we can, the best we can, and to stay at it -- but try to find something you like to do to make a living. And all of us have done that.

When did you realize you could sing?
The time when I thought I had something different is when I wasn't getting in trouble for talking or singing. When I was going to sing, everybody stopped playing dominos or whatever and would listen. I thought that was quite unusual because usually when I walked in a room and I had something to say, everybody was like, "Get out of the room. Go back in yonder and play or go outside." 'Cause I was the third or fourth kid. I wasn't the oldest or the youngest. I wasn't the only boy, and I was usually in the way. And I was mischievous. I was always into something. So when I got good attention from the singing, I knew that was probably where I needed to land.

You started singing at rodeos. Is that where you actually started singing in front of crowds?
No, I started singing when I was little bitty. When I was in the first grade, when they would say, "Who would like to sing a solo at the Christmas program?" I raised my hand. In second grade, I was singing at the graduation, a song called "He." But the first grade was my first time behind a microphone when I sang "Away in a Manger" for the Christmas program.

Every year, it was whatever kind of program they were having, up until the fifth grade when I got into 4-H club. I was doing the individual act for 4-H club, Share the Fun. When we got in junior high, Mama and Clark Ryan, our art teacher, had the idea to form a band. Not a marching band but a country-western band because there were a lot of kids in school that had the talent. Roger Wills, who is the bandleader and bass player for Alan Jackson, was part of that, and Pake (McEntire's brother), Susie (her sister), myself and a bunch of other kids. We would play functions at school, but also we would borrow the equipment, the sound system, and we would go play clubs on weekends. And we'd get in late, late, late at night and we'd put it all back where we needed to. Mama was driving us and she went with us to every club. We played 9 to 1 for our show money. Then if there was enough people wanting to hang around, we'd play from 1 to 3 and just pass the hat. So I've been in front of audiences a long time.

Let's talk about Red Steagall bringing you to Nashville and helping get a record deal.
Well, Daddy stepped in again when I was in college. I was having me a big time. I loved college. I loved school. Anything besides having to work on the ranch, I was for that. I would go to the National Finals Rodeo every year with a bunch of my friends down in college. We had a great time. Daddy said, "Instead of going up there having a good time, why don't you go get you a job?" I said "Doing what?" And he said, "Singing the national anthem." Well, of course, my mind was ticking -- man, we could get everybody into the rodeo for free on that and all my buddies would love that.

So I asked [famed rodeo announcer] Clem McSpadden if he could get me a job, and he said yes. I started that in 1974. After the rodeo one night, we went to a Justin Boot party at the Hilton. They called it a guitar pull, and a lot of cowboys were there. Red Steagall was there playing his guitar and then he would pass it around. Pake, Susie and I were singing some songs, and Everett Shaw, a rodeo cowboy, wanted me to sing "Joshua." That was one of my favorite Dolly Parton songs, so I did.

Mama asked Red if there was any way that he could possibly get Susie, Pake and I into the music business. And he told her, "Jackie, I'm just really fighting for getting myself in the door." That was December '74. And in January '75, Red called Mama and said, "I've been thinking about what you said. I can't take all three, but I can take Reba and possibly get her started and bring the other two in." So, by October of that next year, after singing demos that Red and Glenn Sutton had written for me, I finally got a recording contract with Polygram/Mercury Records.

You had some success with Mercury, but what changed when you switched to MCA?
I appreciate everybody at Mercury who stayed with me, taught me, molded me, guided me. Great friends. That's the best part about this whole business is the friendship you have. They could have dropped me after the first album and the first single that entered the charts at 99 and stayed there. [Titled "I Don't Want to Be a One-Night Stand," it peaked at No. 88.] But they didn't. They stayed with me and they nurtured me. I appreciate that more than you can ever imagine.

When we went from Polygram/Mercury records over to MCA, I changed because [producer and Mercury label head] Jerry Kennedy said, "I think we've done everything we can do for you here. You need to make another step. Make another change." I appreciate that guidance and him saying that and being so honest with me. ...

I was unhappy with things. I wanted steel guitar. I wanted fiddle. I didn't want the orchestra coming in and playing on my songs. I wanted more country songs. And it was [MCA's] Jimmy Bowen who finally told me, "You've got to get out there and find your own songs if you don't like what we're finding for you." I said, "Well, how do you do that?" He told me, "Go to publishing companies, sit there and listen to songs." So, all that guidance has made me what I am today.

How much did the video for "Whoever's in New England" have to do with the song's success and with you being elevated to a superstar?
I was one of the very first people to ever do a video in country music. ... We filmed most of it in Boston. I knew there were huge country music fans in the Northeast because in my fan club I had more members from Pennsylvania than any other state in the union. Going to Boston didn't scare me any. I knew we were loved up there. So we did this song about New England and it really did broaden the appeal, broaden my audience -- not only on stage but on television. People could watch this video. And they also saw a different side of me acting and being a different character than Reba McEntire. I think it did great things for my career.

Watching this video, you were able to be sad but not broken.
Yeah. I think ignorance is bliss. I didn't know how to act one way or the other. [Video director] Jon Small was saying what to do. I think we had our biggest arguments about how long my Wranglers were, because I wanted to wear my boots and I wanted to wear my Wranglers. I think I had my cowboy belt buckle on. And he kept saying, "Reba, I don't really think you're supposed to wear your britches that long." I said, "Oh yeah, that's the way we do it in Oklahoma, and that's the way I'll be wearing them up here in Boston."

If you had any question about you being a superstar before "What Am I Going to Do About You," you didn't have any doubts after this one.
That was the one with [actor] David Keith, wasn't it? Wow. That was a good video and I'll never forget that I had to sit there and sing that last part crying. Oh, my gosh. That wasn't hard the first three times, but to continue to do that ... that was really hard. But it was fun getting to work with David Keith. He was doing a movie in Greece somewhere, and he flew over to do this video for me. We did part of it in New York City. Lots of fun.

Did you ever plan on becoming an actress?
I always wanted to be an actress. I always wanted to be a movie star. I always thought there was an imaginary camera following me around all the time. If I was going down to the roping pen or hauling off trash, I thought there was a camera on me all the time. I don't know why or where that came from, but I always did think somebody was watching all the time. If it was a camera, that was because I was going to be a movie star one of these days. But I totally love to act. ... I don't care if it's a musical, a comedy. I just like to work and interact with other people. I think it came from singing with Pake and Susie when we were growing up -- the Singing McEntires being a group. I like to be with other people rather than standing out there by myself.

"Fancy" had controversial subject matter but you carried it off.
I have loved "Fancy" ever since Bobbie Gentry had it out in 1968. I'd want to play it in bars and clubs and dancehalls. Oklahoma people would say, "You can't dance to that!" I said, "I don't care. Sit down. I'm going to sing it. That's my favorite song." I tried to get Jimmy Bowen to let me do it, and he said, "Oh no, you don't need to be singing about a prostitute." When I got with [producer] Tony Brown in '90, after I had Shelby [her son], Tony said "Is there any song you'd like to record and maybe do a remake of?" And I said, "Fancy." He said, "Oh, my gosh, that's one of my favorite songs." After we released it, women would write letters. ... One lady said that her daughter wanted to enter a talent contest and she wanted to do "Fancy." And her mama said, "Honey, do you know what this is about?" And she said, "Yeah, it's about this little girl who wants to go to a prom and she wants to wear a red dress." OK. (laughs) Bless her heart.

In a genre that sometimes doesn't reward pushing the envelope, you have done it successfully. It seems you do it because you believe in these songs. Is that the reason?
That's very true. It's not a shock factor. I don't want to shock anybody and I don't want to get recognition for doing it. I like the songs. I love the songs. When I listened to "She Thinks His Name Was John" at Bluewater Music, they said "I don't think anybody else would record this. Do you want to hear this?" I said, "Sure." And I took it and I loved it. I thought if I could sing about HIV and AIDS, people would talk about it more freely and that dark cloud would be taken away. And people could deal with this situation that was so devastating.

I do like to take chances. When I did "Respect" on the CMA Awards show, people said, "Why on earth would you do an Aretha Franklin song?" I said, "I'm her biggest fan! I love this song." "Yeah, but that's an Aretha Franklin song." It never dawned on me. It just never dawned on me. I just sing songs I like to sing that touch my heart. Hopefully, if I sing them right, they touch yours, too.

Reba McEntire's Friends 'Turn' Out to Celebrate No. 1 Hit

As tornado warnings hovered over Nashville last night (April 11), during the celebration of Reba McEntire's No. 1 single 'Turn on the Radio,' they reminded the singer of the day she was filming the video for the song.

"We were having tornado warnings that day too," Reba told a group of music industry VIPs who had gathered to help her celebrate her 60th Top 10 hit -- and 35th No. 1. "I thank all of you for braving the stormy weather to come out for this. I guess every time we hear storm warnings we'll think to 'Turn on the Radio' for storm coverage," the singer quipped.

The party, held in the lobby of Reba's Starstruck Entertainment offices on Nashville's Music Row, was also a celebration of songwriters Cherie Oakley, Thomas Mark Oakley and J.P. Twang, who were celebrating the first No. 1's of their respective careers.

"For Reba McEntire, a legend, an icon, to record one of my songs is so incredible," Cherie told the crowd. "She has inspired me and will continue to do so for the rest of my life. This day means the world to me; I cannot express to you how I feel."

Mark, Cherie's husband, was also nearly speechless as he thanked everyone for coming, adding, "Reba is unbelievable, and to have her sing a song we wrote is so incredible. She's an amazing singer and for someone like her to take us to the next level has made my dreams come true. It's been an amazing ride."

Reba had equal praise for the songwriters, saying, "I love to perform this song. When we go into it and the audience is right there with us, on their feet, it is just too much fun. I thank you for allowing me to record the song!"

The singer paused a moment and added, "And don't forget me when you write another song you're ready to pitch! You've got my number."

Reba was presented a number of plaques and awards for the single. She was also recognized by Bob Kingsley's Country Top 40 countdown for having the number one single in 2010 with her tune 'Consider Me Gone.' 'Turn on the Radio' is Reba's 35th Billboard chart-topper, the second from her 'All the Women I Am' CD. Her current single is 'When Love Gets a Hold of You."

Reba learned last month that she will be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame later this year, along with Jean Shepard and songwriter Bobby Braddock.

The ceremony, which honors country music's top talent as well as the industry's hottest emerging artists, is produced for television by dick clark productions and will be broadcast LIVE from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, April 3rd, 2011 at 8:00 PM live ET/delayed PT on the CBS Television Network.

The Academy of Country Music Special Awards are voted on by the ACM Board of Directors and are awarded during years where the Board of Directors feels there are clear and deserving candidates. The Country Music Association announced today that Bobby Braddock, Reba McEntire, and Jean Shepard will become the newest members of the coveted Country Music Hall of Fame.

Reba, who is known worldwide by her first name, will be inducted in the “Modern Era Artist” category, while Shepard will be inducted in the “Veterans Era Artist” category. Braddock is the first inductee in the new “Songwriter” category, which is awarded every third year in a rotation with the “Recording and/or Touring Musician” and “Non-Performer” categories. Braddock, Reba, and Shepard will increase membership in the coveted Country Music Hall of Fame from 112 to 115 inductees.

“We are inducting royalty this year,” said Steve Moore, CMA Chief Executive Officer. “Jean and Reba are two of Country Music’s most revered queens, and Bobby Braddock is a king of songwriting. All three of them refused to follow the crowd; instead, creating their own unique paths. I cannot imagine what Country Music would be like today without these three talented individuals and all of their accomplishments. They each continue to inspire me with their latest performances, albums, compositions, and productions.”

"When I think of my heroes who are in the Country Music Hall of Fame, I am truly humbled to know that I am being inducted,” said Braddock. “I want to express my gratitude to the voters who feel that I am worthy of this great honor."

“This is a huge honor for me and something I’ve dreamed about since I was a little girl,” said Reba. “When I was a young girl, we would take vacations to Nashville and tour the Country Music Hall of Fame. And now, for me to be inducted, is a dream come true.”

“I have spent nearly 60 years doing something that I love, singing and promoting Country Music, and it’s wonderful to see that my efforts haven't been in vain,” said Shepard. “I am so grateful to CMA, the Country Music fans, and those that voted for me. I am honored and privileged to be in the company of the legendary members who came before me. I wish to thank the Hall of Fame, all of my fans, and Country Music for allowing me and my family to enjoy this most cherished tribute to my musical career.”

Induction ceremonies for Braddock, Reba, and Shepard will take place at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum later this year. Since 2007, the Museum’s Medallion Ceremony, an annual reunion of the Hall of Fame membership, has served as the official rite of induction for new members.

“As always, the announcement of new inductees into the Country Music Hall of Fame is a red letter day,” said Kyle Young, Director, Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. “The 2011 class is particularly stunning, because the careers of Bobby Braddock, Jean Shepard and Reba McEntire represent an amazing rainbow of Country Music history. Their arc begins in Country Music’s 1950s golden age, spans the remaining half of the 20th Century, and extends into the here and now, with no end in sight. Each had the courage of personal conviction; all created music that often spoke specifically to women, but also transcended gender to become universal; and each leaves a unique and indelible mark on Country Music’s past, present and future.”

CMA created the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1961 to recognize noteworthy individuals for their outstanding contributions to the format with Country Music’s highest honor.

Last year, Reba McEntire released her 34th studio album, "All the Women I Am," and now the award-winning singer and actress is premiering the video for "If I Were a Boy" on Oprah.com. Here's what she knows for sure:

I use all my skills that I can muster up, but the fun thing is that I find some untapped skills every once in a while. I get that from my daddy.

The upside to anger? Getting it out of your system. You got to express your anger. Then you have room for more positive things. If I hold something in a long time, and then I speak it, it's amazing how the light shines so much brighter.

I have good gut instincts on friends. Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn—those were my heroes growing up. They are still my heroes, and now they're my friends. I have adored them for 30, 40 years. And I've got friends from high school, junior high, first grade, college, band members that I hadn't seen in years that I can still email, and it just picks up like you were talking yesterday. That's pretty special.

The thing I'm most afraid of is not being broad-minded. I want to be able to sit there and say, "Oh, really, well, why? What's your point of view?" To be open enough to say, "My view might not be all there is to it. I may have a chance to learn something."

When you're a very ambitious person, the things that are disappointing are when other people around you aren't as enthusiastic. And you're like, "What do you mean you don't think I can do this?" But I was fortunate: There were very few of those people in my life. My parents were very supportive. The only thing Daddy wasn't supportive of was when I wanted to run barrels in the rodeo. But Mama understood that we needed to go have fun running barrels rodeoing.

I wasn't that good at running barrels in the rodeo, I promise you, but I loved it. I was better at the practice pen than I was in the arena. When the crowd became involved—it wasn't good.

Waiting makes me restless. When I'm ready, I'm ready.

The hardest part about forgiving people is deciding to forgive them. But I ask for forgiveness all the time, and that's not right if I can't forgive people, so I made a pact with myself. I said, "I am sick and tired of being mad at people who probably don't even remember who I am, or why I'm mad at them." So I'm going to say, seven times, "I forgive you, I forgive you, I forgive you." And I'll do it every day. About the second or third day, I couldn't even remember what I was forgiving them for.

The older you get, you learn how to deal with things that you can't control. I don't mean world peace and hunger. I'm talking about when you know people that are close to you are hurting and you can't fix it. That stresses me. But all I can do is turn it over to the Lord. Because what made me think I could fix it in the first place?

The songs that I sing help me tremendously. It happened that way in March of 1991 when the plane crashed with my band members and friends and my tour manager and two pilots. It's not a relief from grief, but I could sing about it. I've expressed my grief, and others can feel it and help me with it.

Answers appear. They come as a phone call: "We've got this movie we want you to do." "We've got you a job here." Doors open up. My husband's a firm believer that we will be guided the way that we're supposed to be guided. When opportunities happen, we know that they were presented for us, and if we don't take it, it will go to somebody else who probably will want it more.

Parenting is a never-ending job. My son just turned 21, but when the waiter comes over, and he mumbles, "I want the cheeseburger," I'm like, "Next time you speak up, you look him in the eye and you smile. He's been on his feet for eight hours, and you're sitting down here, and he's waiting on you." I tell him, "Shelby, no, you don't do it like that, you do it like this." Parenting is not wait till you get home; it's take care of the problem here.

Reba McEntire is discovering a whole new world, which says a lot considering she already wears dozens of hats including singer, songwriter, actor, author and designer. The multi-faceted businesswoman, who says her most important roles are as wife and mother, is now learning about race car driving, thanks to her son, Shelby Blackstock, who drives the No. 51 Ford Mustang Roush.

Reba shifted gears from performer to spectator at a pit stop in Daytona Beach, Fla., to cheer Shelby on in the Continental Tire Challenge Grand-Am 200 on Friday (January 21).

"It's kind of like 101 race time for Reba," she told the media prior to the race. "It's been very fun and very exciting for me. I'm having a real good time with it."

Assuming her son would follow in the footsteps of her and husband-manager, Narvel Blackstock, and join the family music business, she was pleasantly surprised when he took up the sport of racing five months ago.

"I'm very happy that he's racing because that's his passion," said the proud mom. "I can understand the excitement of the race business. I'm from a rodeo family. The scare tactics and everything are very similar in rodeo. The adrenaline does flow very fast, but I'm used to that."

Reba even took to her Twitter page over the weekend to express her excitement at watching Shelby in his first professional race. "Being in the pit with the crew (who I have the utmost respect and admiration for), watching Shelby on the track racing at 170 mph was the biggest rush I've ever had!!"

Shelby, who turns 21 next month, attended the University of Arizona last year, but quickly realized college was not for him. His interest was racing, so his mother offered him a deal that if he finished the year at school he could try racing.

"It was definitely a carrot dangling in front of me," Shelby told the Daytona Beach News Journal. "It worked out though. I did not like the University of Arizona too much. The school was good. College was fun. But Tucson, I'm not a big fan of."

Marking his first time at the Daytona International Speedway, Shelby qualified 24th for Friday's 58-car, 150-minute race and split time in the seat with Roly Falgueras. The team finished in 18th place with their best lap time coming in at one-minute-59-seconds at lap No. 30.

"I've always wanted to race here," he revealed. "It wasn't really shocking until I was going around turn four and shifting into fifth gear, and I was looking around and realized I was going 160 miles per hour and that I was passing my break-zone marker."

Shelby attended the Bondurant and Skip Barber Racing Schools and made his first start last August in the Mustang Challenge at Miller Motorsports Park. He finished last and second-to-last in his first two outings, but less than two months later, he came in third and first, respectively.

"It's almost a dream come true so far," he explained. "It doesn't really have the same flare of being around concerts and everything else I've done in my life, but it's definitely a highlight."

Shelby is earning his time behind the wheel by competing in the Skip Barber Western, Southern and National Series, and he feels he has a lot more to learn about his chosen profession.

"I don't think I'm fully as ready as I need to be, because I'm still learning the track and still learning the car," he said. "Little by little, I want to make this into a career. [My parents are] supportive; they understand this is what I want to do."

Fans can catch the race on the Speed Channel on Saturday, February 5 at 3:00 PM ET.

Reba, who is making her way up the country charts with 'If I Were a Boy,' has been tapped to take part in the Academy of Country Music's CBS-TV special, 'Girl's Night Out: Superstar Women Of Country,' which will be taped April 4 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The Academy of Country Music and dick clark productions announced today that one of the "most versatile of contemporary country singers" (The New York Times) and all-around funnyman Blake Shelton will join forces with country music superstar Reba to host the 46th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards broadcast LIVE from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at 8:00 PM live ET/delayed PT on the CBS Television Network.

"This is an incredibly special moment for me," said Shelton. "I am humbled that Reba invited me to co-host the ACM Awards with her. She is not only a mentor to me but a true friend. She continually supports other artists, which is a testament really to her beauty and talent" Shelton adds with a laugh. "You will definitely have to tune-in and check it out. With the two of us together on live TV, you never know what we might say!"

Reba has won 12 Academy of Country Music Awards including winning Top Female Vocalist seven times and being awarded the first-ever annual Academy of Country Music/The Home Depot Humanitarian Award for her outstanding philanthropic work. This marks Blake Shelton's debut as an award show host as he becomes the 50th host since the inception of the ACM Awards. Reba McEntire is hearing wedding bells. No, she's not planning a recommitment ceremony to husband Narvel Blackstock, but she is watching several of her 'adopted' children tie the knot. Reba recently attended the nuptials between JoAnna Garcia, who played the superstar's daughter Cheyenne on 'Reba,' to New York Yankees outfielder Nick Swisher.

"I loved that," Reba tells The Boot. "I had a wonderful time. It was down in Florida, I wish we could have spent three or four more days down there."

There's another wedding on the 'Turn on the Radio' singer's horizon as Blake Shelton, who is managed by Reba's stepson Brandon Blackstock, and Miranda Lambert are 'Makin' Plans.' "I'm excited," Reba says. "I really do have a maternal relationship with Blake, so I'm looking forward to it."

Reba's feelings for her fellow Okie were more than obvious at this year's CMA Awards as she was overcome by emotion when he was named Male Vocalist of the Year. "They are a company, but they're a family," Blake explained backstage at the CMA Awards. "When you're brought into that, they treat you like family. When Reba was standing there emotional and was crying, and Narvel was crying ... I've been with them for five years now, and it's been a battle [for us]. I mean, every day has been a grind and it's just not been easy. [It's] like when you've been pushing on a wall and pushing, and that moment when it finally hits the ground, that's kind of what it felt like [to win the CMA award]. It's awesome!"

While Reba shares the same relationship with each couple, she is prepared for the events to entirely dissimilar. "It's going to be totally different from JoAnna and Nick's wedding," Reba adds. "That was in Florida, this is going to be, I'm sure, in Texas. I don't know, though."

Reba McEntire has definitely gotten into the Christmas giving spirit. Instead of exchanging gifts this year with her husband/manager, Narvel Blackstock, the couple will adopt another family and give them the royal treatment, providing a tree, holiday decorations and presents. To see others follow her example is the first item on her own wish list.

"If anyone wants to give to a charity, pick out a family: buy them a Christmas dinner," she suggests to CMT Radio. "You can say, 'It's from our family and Reba.' And that would be perfect. That would be the greatest Christmas present you could ever give me."

Reba recently spent time on the west coast with her former TV show co-star, JoAnna Garcia, filming a guest spot on JoAnna's new show, 'Better With You.' The two, who have stayed close since 'Reba' went off the air in 2007, are still mutual fans of the other, both personally and professionally. "I was a big fan of the show, I love the concept," Reba told The Boot. "It's totally relatable, no matter what age group you are. If you're older, you've been in the younger characters' situation, and the middle group and the older group. It's, 'Oh, that's my parents. That's my sister and her husband.' It's just so witty and a great concept. I fell in love with the pilot."

JoAnna, who credits Reba with her current success, to invited the red-headed superstar to be an attendant at her weekend nuptials to New York Yankees outfielder Nick Swisher. "I wouldn't be here if it hadn't been for the experience I had on 'Reba,'" JoAnna explains. "All that I learned, not just as an actress but as a career woman from Reba, and learning that you can do it all and you can be kind and lovely and genuine. You can care about the people you're working with -- we had a family -- I knew we had such great people we were working with here and I wanted it to be something that was as lovely and respectful and wonderful as what I had. I wouldn't be here it weren't for her, and I mean that genuinely,"

"With me in charge of this event, every one of your friends is going to be so jealous. They won't speak to you for weeks because you're going to make their kids' wedding look like a birthday party in a borrowed back yard," she promises.

The album, entitled All the Woman I Am, is an eclectic mix of songs that speaks of women falling in love. Last night, after Gwyneth Paltrow’s performance at the County Music Awards, not only did she earn a standing ovation, but some of country’s biggest stars took notice.

The Oscar winner is getting rave reviews for her performance of Country Strong, which is also the title of her upcoming film.

“Gwyneth is a great singer,” three-time CMA winner Miranda Lambert commented. “I’ve never got to meet her, but she did a great job, and I think she’s probably really country, and I think she really seems very genuine, and can’t lose with Vince Gill. You can’t mess up if you’ve got that going.”

As for the night’s two-time winner, Lady Antebellum, she says the standing ovation was Paltrow’s shining moment.

Lady member Charles Kelley said, “We were sitting behind her. We know it sounds great on the radio, but then to hear it live – I mean, she sounded just like her record. I was absolutely, completely blown away. I think that was the biggest reaction of the night, too, with the crowd.”

Hillary Scott added, “Talk about a stamp of music cred. That’s definitely amazing, and it’s any country artist’s dream.”

Actress Sissy Spacek, who portrayed Loretta Lynn in the 1980 movie Coal Miner's Daughter, introduced the Lynn to the crowd, while Miranda Lambert and Sheryl Crow performed for the country legend.

The two stars started to perform the song Coal Miner's Daughter as a duet. Loretta Lynn herself surprised and delighted the crowd, when she arrived on stage and the duet became a trio.

McEntire performed Beyonce’s If I Were a Boy – and nailed it. She looked stunning in a black form-fitting dress do so.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Think of this as the Reba McEntire edition of the Country Music Association Awards.

Country music's most recognizable woman is up for just one award, but she inspired and led the way for the new generation of female talent that swept through nominations this year.

Young singers like Miranda Lambert, Hillary Scott of Lady Antebellum, Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood admit they owe a debt to stars like Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton — as do all female country performers. But it was Reba who was front and center during their childhood, pointing the way.

She won the CMA's entertainer of the year in 1986 — around the time Lambert turned 3 and Scott was a few months old — and a quarter of a century later at 55, she's still as vibrant and active as ever. She's up for female vocalist of the year Wednesday night and is poised to release her 34th album, "All The Women I Am," the day before.

"I think Reba has really shown what a woman's career should look like," said Lambert, who leads all nominees with nine. "She's just a mogul. She works so hard and she looks better than she ever has and her music's great still, it fits in no matter what."

Mogul might just be the perfect word to describe McEntire. There's been nothing one-dimensional about her career. Her albums come out like clockwork and each is peppered with hit songs she's worked tirelessly to find, listening to thousands of submissions. She is among country music's top touring draws. She's the longtime host of the Academy of Country Music Awards and her surprise hit TV show remains in heavy rotation in syndication. She's even done Broadway. And don't forget her clothing and product lines.

She's created the ideal country music career that everyone is striving for, and it's been that way for as long as Scott remembers. The 26-year-old singer's mother, Linda Davis, was a member of McEntire's band and Scott grew up watching McEntire up close.

"Her presence and what she represents has never wavered for me," said Scott, whose group is up for five awards. "It's still like: She is Reba. She's accomplished so much and she's succeeded in every endeavor she's went for. I think what I've learned from her, when she wants to do something and she wants to go for it, she goes for it. She puts her whole heart and soul and effort into it."

One of the highlights of Scott's young career was watching McEntire's reaction to Lady A's performance on the CMA Awards last year.

"I say this a lot, but one thing that's really important to me is making her proud," Scott said. "And whenever we were watching the CMAs after our performance and it shot straight to her and she had tears in her eyes, it was just the most overwhelming feeling in the entire world to see that because what she thinks is really important to me."

McEntire relishes the role she plays for young performers. She's pulling for all the women nominated and believes the genre needs more women both in front of the microphone and behind the scenes to truly thrive. She says she pays close attention to the genre's women, and has had her eye on Lambert.

"I watch it," she said. "I watch the charts. I watch the videos. I see what the younger acts are doing. They're my competition but they're also my friends and my peers that I'm working with, and I'm very proud of Miranda. She has struck gold this year with the songs she's selected ... I am very anxious to see how she maintains this, what she comes out with next and how she handles it."

Just as the kids of today remember Reba at important times, Lynn, Parton, Barbara Mandrell, Kitty Wells and Anne Murray are never far from her thoughts.

"They broke down a lot of doors and barriers and were not going to sit over on the stool and be patted on the head and told when to sing and when not to sing," she said. "They were the ones who opened the doors and kicked down the doors for me. I said when I won my first female vocalist of year award: 'My boot's in the door ... and I'm going to do everything I can for country music and carry the banner for it all,' and I have almost all over the world."

Reba Sees Her Husband in Tim McGraw's 'Country Strong' Role

The red carpet will be rolled out tonight (November 8) for the Nashville premiere of 'Country Strong,' the highly-anticipated film starring Tim McGraw and Gwyneth Paltrow. In the film, Tim plays Gwyneth's husband-manager, who attempts to resurrect his wife's career by spearheading a comeback tour, tapping two young singer/songwriters to be her opening acts.

When Reba McEntire co-hosted this past weekend's CMT Country Countdown USA with Lon Helton, she revealed that Tim's character bears more than a passing resemblance to her own husband-manager, Narvel Blackstock.

"[Tim] told Narvel that he got all of his inspiration from Narvel," says Reba. "Faith [Hill] emailed me and she said, 'He looks just like Narvel in this movie!' I saw the trailer when I went to see 'Secretariat,' and he does."

While she says she can't wait to see the movie, Reba also admits that since her husband was influential in Tim's portrayal, it could make Narvel a little nervous. "He has a right to be," Reba says with a laugh.

Putting aside any of Narvel's traits that Tim may -- or may not -- have co-opted for the film role, Reba certainly knows the value of her husband's managerial skills.

"As a manager, Narvel is a great idea man," notes the superstar." He's a positive thinker. He's very good to encourage. He thinks about it a lot. He stays glued, and he's always thinking of new things to do. That's his strong point for me ... but to be fair, he's always a fair person."

'Country Strong' opens December 22 in select theaters and will be released nationwide on January 7, 2011

Reba McEntire (WENN.COM) Country music veteran Reba McEntire says before she covered the Beyonce chart-topper If I Were A Boy, she didn't really know the tune.

But then the 55-year-old Oklahoma native scored a viral hit on YouTube with her version, and it's now included on McEntire's new album All The Women I Am, on sale Nov. 9.

"When I got the song and the lyrics, I thought it was an incredible song," said McEntire, on the line from Minneapolis before a short swing through Western Canada, including a show Friday night at Edmonton's Rexall Place.

"And, to me, it turned out to be a country song, when we got our instrumentation on it and everything. And some people go, 'Well, why in the world would you do a pop song?' I just think music is music. You've got good and you've got bad, and I try to stay on the good side."

McEntire first recorded If I Were A Boy for CMT's Unplugged Sessions back in May, and the success of it led to her recording a whole new album.

"We did it and it went viral, and so we thought, 'We're going to quit the Keep On Loving You album (from 2009) and start a new album.'

"And so I found a song called Turn On Your Radio, and when we recorded that one, it just screamed 'first single.' It's sassy."

All The Women I Am is McEntire's 34th career disc, and she's calls it "a theme" album.

"I have been all these women in this album. I have lectured a boy or two. I've been divorced. I have a child. I have been in love. All these songs -- it's the women -- all the hats they wear. And I've worn all the hats in this album, so this is all the women I am."

And a woman's toughest job?

"Spending time for herself," said McEntire after a long pause. "She's a giver. She's a caretaker. She's a lover. She's a mother. She's a worker and she can triple-task at one time. Finding time for herself and not feeling guilty about it probably is the most important thing that she can do for herself. I love getting older and maturing. You learn about yourself, to do things for yourself and not to feel guilty. That's a big step for women. I've got the kids, the work, being a wife. When that day (off) happens, I cherish it. I'll schedule lunch with my girlfriends. I love to do that. That's a treat for me."

In the meantime, McEntire is performing at the Country Music Awards on Nov. 10. She is up for best female vocalist.

After all this time, a victory still means something to her.

"You bet it's a big deal," she said. "It's voted on by your peers, the people in the industry. It's very important. It's a huge honour ... I don't take it for granted at all."

She hopes she gets to play Eastern Canada next year.

"You guys are always so nice to us," she said. "You're very attentive, very appreciative of artists coming to your town, and y'all love country music -- so I'm just so proud to get to come to Canada."

Reba welcomes Gwyneth to singers' club

The big news at next month's Country Music Awards is that Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow is set to make her CMA debut, singing the title track from her new movie, Country Strong.

Reba McEntire -- a country singer who dabbles in acting -- doesn't have a problem with Paltrow doing the reverse.

"'Welcome to the party' is my view," she said. "I don't know what everybody else is saying. But she's in a new movie with Tim McGraw so that's why she's been invited to the CMA awards. And (Tim's wife) Faith (Hill) said she sings great. Faith told me that's the best performance of a movie she's ever seen her do. So I can't wait to see it."

McEntire's own acting plans include filming two cameos -- in the sitcom Better With You (ABC, Wednesday nights), and in the series Working Class (debuting in January on CMT).
